Thank you for finding out more about our advocacy work regarding our concerns about a pattern of discrimination we have observed with the Charleston County School District (CCSD).
If you attended our May 2016 General Membership Meeting, you are aware that we are urging parents, students, and concerned citizens in the Charleston area to take part in a letter writing campaign proposed and coordinated by a longtime public education advocate here in Charleston, Jon Butzon. Formerly the Director of the Charleston Education Network, Mr. Butzon suggested that we file complaints with the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights sharing our experiences as parents (and guardians) and students of the Charleston County School District. Mr. Butzon has shared a sample Letter of Complaint to get you started, but we urge you to personalize your letter based on your experience with the school district.
Mr. Butzon has also graciously compiled for us data points regarding CCSD’s pattern of discrimination against minority students, which you can view here. As you can see, the sample letter contains data points, but please feel free to additional data in your letter.
Ready to Take Action?
We thank you for your support of your work, and we hope to see you at an upcoming General Membership Meeting!
