Chartered 100 years ago in April of 1917, the Charleston Branch of the NAACP is the oldest Branch in the State of South Carolina. The volunteers of the Branch are committed to carrying out the mission of the organization, which is to ensure political, educational, social and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination. To that end, our immediate priorities are voter participation, educational equity in the Public Schools, Racial Discrimination, Discrimination in the workforce, and issues of unfair treatment in the justice system.
The Charleston Branch has a long and storied history of fighting for the political, civil, and human rights of all people, especially those in the African American Community.
While we feel The Charleston Branch continues to make a difference in our community, with your help, we can do more. Membership and participation “fuels the fight” of the work that must be done in our community. The issues have never been more critical, and the need for solutions has never been more urgent. With so much work that must be done, we urge you to join the NAACP today.
