MESSAGE FROM MADAME PRESIDENT- MS. DOT S. SCOTT

At 95 years old, the Charleston Branch of the NAACP is the oldest Branch in the State of South Carolina .   The volunteers of the Branch are committed to carrying out the mission of the organization, which is:

“ to ensure political, educational, social and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination.  To that end, our immediate priorities are  voter participation, educational equity in the Public Schools, Racial Discrimination, Discrimination in the workforce, and issues of unfair treatment in the justice system."

The Charleston Branch has a long and storied history of fighting for the  political, civil, and human rights of all people, especially those in the  African American Community.

While we feel The Charleston Branch continues to make a difference in our community, with your help we can do more.  Membership and participation “fuels the Fight” of the work that must be done in our community.   The issues have never been more critical and the need for solutions has never been more urgent….with so much work that must be done,  we urge you to Join The NAACP TODAY.

Welcome to our website. Our motto: "All Volunteers, Always Working". Having had the opportunity to serve as president the last 13 years, I am both humbled and distinctly honored to have been blessed with the support of the most dedicated and committed Civil Rights activists anywhere. Together, we made a difference in the lives of many.

We, the oldest NAACP Branch in the state, celebrate a storied history and legacy of which we are extremely proud. With more than 97 years of service, we remain "doubled- down" in our commitment to fight for equality and justice. Those Civil Rights workers who came before us recognized the importance of passing the torch. The struggle continues.

The devasting results of injustice are profoundly evident and should be a constant reminder of the work that remains undone! We can no longer continue to withdraw from the banks of justice, which was built with and stocked by sacrifices of blood, sweat and tears of our forefathers. We must make a deposit, because if we do not our descendants will not only find a system label "insufficient funds", but bankrupted!

Rev. Darby, 1st Vice President                       Robert Maguire, 2nd Vice President

Jerome Clemons, Treasurer                          Katrina Tekakwitha, Secretary
